ICC JUVENILE SERVICES COUNSELOR
$16.50 per hour
Part-time, 20 hours per week (afternoons 2p-6p, M-TH & 9a-1p Sat)
NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible casework providing direct and referral services to juvenile delinquents and youth at risk for entering the juvenile justice system. You are required to assist clients and their families with personal, family and community challenges. The work involves interaction with the Juvenile Assessment Center, The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), The Juvenile Courts and Miami-Dade County Schools. You must be a self-starter, detailed oriented and able to work independently. There is a certain amount of fieldwork that is also required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and practices of sociology including techniques of interviewing and counseling;
Knowledge of the laws, rules and practices relating to public assistance as administered under various provisions of federal, state, county and municipal laws;
Knowledge of various public and private community resources available for economic or rehabilitative services;
Knowledge of psychological and environmental factors that have an adverse effect on children and their families;
Ability to conduct interviews with clients and their family members effectively and persuasively;
Ability to obtain and analyze client information and reach sound decisions based on such information;
Ability to express ideas whether oral or written in a clear and concise manner.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice or related field; or a combination of college or university course work and work experience providing professional rehabilitative and preventative services to individual at-risk youth and their families.
